Wrose Library

 *Wrose Library update*

After successful negotiations with Age UK, Wrose Road, it has been agreed that they will incorporate many Wrose Community Library services into their community hub project just two doors down from the current Community Library building in Wrose Road.

This will give greater public access as their premises has longer opening hours. Given this new venture, Wrose Community Association has therefore decided not to renew the lease on the community library building and it will close on 6 November 2020.

There are a low number of library users coming through the door and it is no longer viable to operate from a stand-alone building. Wrose Community Library has been run by a fantastic group of volunteers since 2011 and without them the service would not have been able to continue.

This new partnership with Age UK enables many of the services that did run from Wrose Community Library to continue without interruption for the Wrose community.

Age UK premises will contain its retail outlet, advice services and community hub as well as the following services:

  • Access to computer/Internet & printing services
  • Free WIFI
  • Access to Photocopying/laminating
  • Computer training
  • Community Notice Boards
  • Drop in area for a chat with a coffee machine and a table/settee area
  • Space for small groups to meet up locally
  • Activities – possible Book Group, Knit & Natter, Craft Sessions (dependent on demand)

We are also exploring with Bradford Council whether an Order and Collect service for library books could be offered. There is already significant interest in the library building for other commercial uses so watch this space. The financial savings would be used to support projects in the local community. Currently grants to local organisations are being made to help in this difficult time.

The library will officially close on 6 November 2020 but will not reopen before then because of Covid-19 restrictions. Wrose Community Association would like to thank all the volunteers who have helped run the library and to all those who have visited over the past nine years.
