WROSE REMEMBERS LOCAL HEROES DURING REMEMBRANCE
Wrose has been decked out with poppies and tributes this Remembrance season as a new Remembrance Trail is launched detailing the lives of 11 serviceman and women from Wrose who served our country in the wars.
Local councillors, Wrose Parish Council and the local knitting group have come together to create a number of tributes that will be on display throughout Wrose in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday on 13 November.
Wrose Road has been the focus of most of the activity, with yarn poppies draped across bollards and planters by the Wrose Knitter Knatter group, while Wrose Parish Council have displayed ‘Remembrance Tommy’ signs on lamp posts.
The Remembrance Trail has been displayed with support from local Shipley historian, Richard Coomber, who has researched the lives of soldiers mentioned in The Shipley Times during the wars. Local Councillors have worked with Wrose Parish Council on designing the boards and displaying them on the streets in Wrose where the servicemen and women lived during the wars.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, who is also Chair of Wrose Parish Council, said, “We’re pleased to have been able to fund the fantastic Remembrance Tommy signs along Wrose Road this year, and have had some great feedback from residents already. Our Remembrance Trail is something we hope people will invest some time in to find out about the lives of local heroes who in some cases gave their lives for our country.”
Councillor Liz Rowe, who organises the Knitter Knatter group, said, “We’ve been knitting poppies for so many months now it’s fantastic to see them on display not just in Wrose but also around Windhill too. It was a huge amount of work so a big thank you goes out to all the volunteers who gave up their time to create such a fantastic tribute.”
